Event Highlights: Yuba Community College hosted their Odyssey event at  the Linda campus. The event included several informational booths and display vehicles, including a Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid, Nissan Leaf, Yuba-Sutter Transit Clean Energy bus, For C-MAX, KIA Sorento Hybrid, Toyota Prius, GMC Hybrid pickup, Nissan Altima Hybrid, and a solar maintenance vehicle. Additionally, Yuba hosted a raffle with a prize of a $100 gas card to one person who was drawn from evaluation forms.

Event Highlights: Numerous alternative fuel and advanced technology vehicles were parked in the center of Yuba’s campus and generated excitement among faculty and students. Among these were an electric Mini, a Brammo motorcycle, cars that had been converted to biodiesel, and a liquefied propane gas Ford truck. Informational booths were set up as well.

Senior auto and science students from four local high schools visited the college. They visited each of the booths, met with Yuba College’s auto instructor for an educational discussion about all types of alternative fuel vehicles, watched a demonstration of a hydrogen fuel vehicle, and went into Yuba’s theater to watch the Odyssey video, which aired every half hour with a short introduction from the dean of the automotive division.

Host Site Coordinator: Yuba College

Event Highlights: Motorists were able to learn about the benefits of alternative fuel vehicles (AFVs) as Yuba College played host to Northern California’s only AFV Day Odyssey event on Friday, October 3. The free event allowed visitors to come to the campus and learn about the various ways that consumers can start to save energy and how companies, such as Cal Trans, PG&E and Yuba-Sutter Transit, are working to inform their customers about cost-saving options and reducing their carbon footprint. Participants were able to test drive many hybrid vehicles such as the Ford Escape hybrid and Toyota fuel cell hybrid vehicle from the University of California at Davis, Institute of Transportation Studies. Also on display were the Yuba College and Shasta College industry partnership, and the Northern California Regional Energy Consortium. Students could learn about the consortium and the exploration of wind power and photovoltaic solar options and how methanol and glycerol work as alternative fuel sources.
