Event Highlights: Arlington’s perspective on the importance of petroleum reduction kicked off the event and was presented by Paul Ferguson of the Arlington County Board. Ric Hiller (Arlington County) gave a few remarks relating to Arlington County’s dedication to alternative fuels and a cleaner environment, while Dennis Smith from the U.S. Department of Energy Clean Cities Coalitions remarked on how just a few passionate individuals are making events like Odyssey Day happen and are making a difference in the process. Tom Whipple brought us back to reality with a few facts on peaking oil and oil consumption, and he was followed by his wife, Senator Mary-Margaret Whipple, who described the importance of government leadership in the fight for petroleum reduction. Additionally, 23 alternative fuel or advanced technology vehicles were on display to provide attendees with a firsthand look of the future of transportation.
