Event Highlights: Silicon Valley Clean Cities and Breathe California hosted four Odyssey events in Northern California. These events included booths at Gavilan College’s annual health fair, Breathe California’s annual Breath of Life Walk at West Valley College, Hitachi, and Senator Elaine Alquist’s Health Forum. Each of these displays included alternative fuel vehicles such as a Toyota Highlander Hybrid, Toyota Prius, Toyota Camry Hybrid, Honda Civic Hybrid, Ford CNG pick-up truck, an electric all-terrain vehicle (ATV) by Electric Movement, and an electric scooter by ELV Motors. The majority of these vehicles were available for ride-and-drives. In addition, at each of these events Silicon Valley Clean Cities Coalition and Breathe California gave away two tickets to Gilroy Gardens, a local amusement park.

Event Highlights: From September 24 through October 4, 2008, approximately 1,000 people received information and hundreds were able to get a hands-on look at alternatively fueled vehicles at the four events Silicon Valley Clean Cities Coalition held in the Bay Area of Northern California. Venues varied from an auto manufacturing plant, to a community college, to high-tech industries. Information from the NAFTC was provided, as well as Clean Cities information (national and local), and information on the health effects of air pollution and global warming. Alternative fuel vehicles (AFVs) were available at two of the events, and owners/experts were there to answer questions about AFVs in depth. Thanks to donated amusement park tickets that were used as incentives, almost 150 participant evaluation forms were collected that proved the events captured attention for the possibilities of driving AFVs. The surveys showed that less than five percent had ever owned an AFV/hybrid, but over 60 percent got several types of new information on AFVs, and 48 percent greatly increased their enthusiasm toward buying an AFV. In addition, the Coalition board members and coordinator participated in four other Odyssey events hosted by other partners, including a groundbreaking and a grand opening for the first ethanol stations in the Bay Area. Over 150,000 more people were reached through a thirty-minute talk show on local television.
